Craft beer is a growing phenomenon throughout Ontario, with microbreweries and brewpubs popping up around the province to offer beer lovers quality craft brews and unique drinking atmospheres. In light of this growing popularity, here are three things to know about craft beer and microbreweries:

1. According to Brewers Association, craft brewers have an annual production of 6 million barrels of beer or less, are independently owned, and brew beer using both traditional and innovative ingredients and techniques.

2. The first craft brewery in Canada opened in 1982 under the name Horseshoe Bay Brewing in Vancouver, British Columbia. Ontario’s first craft brewery was Brick Brewing Company, which opened two years later in Waterloo, Ontario.

3. Ontario has a burgeoning craft beer scene, and there are a number of exciting events and festivals that beer lovers can enjoy in and around the Niagara Region. This includes Toronto’s Festival of Beer, Niagara Craft Beer Festival, Ontario Craft Beer Week, the grand opening of Niagara Brewing Company, and the Golden Tap Awards.
