FARblog7The Niagara region boasts some of the finest dining in all of Canada. From downtown Niagara Falls spots like The Rainbow Room by Massimo Capra and Windows by Jamie Kennedy to winery restaurants like Raven Winery Restaurant and Trius Winery Restaurant, if what you seek above all else is a fine dining experience where the food lives up to its legendary status, you can literally swoon at almost every meal. And while it’s true that the high-end dining that’s available throughout the region is second-to-none, sometimes, even in a foodie’s life, it isn’t foie gras that calls — it’s bar food.

When that time happens and you’re on vacation to Niagara, you’re in luck. From burgers and poutine to pizza and donuts, there are food options here nearly as wide-ranging as those in New York City. One of the dishes that’s especially common and good is that old bar food standby: nachos. When what you crave is a mountain of chips topped with an impossibly large mountain of cheese, head to one of these three spots.

Taps on Queen

This local brewery serves up some fantastic food and beer, and for a visitor who needs a plateful of piping hot and noteworthy nachos; Taps’ will FARblog8definitely fit the bill. On Fridays, you can actually get a pitcher of their beer and an order of nachos for just $15. If that isn’t enough to tempt you, though, here’s a description: Their nachos include delicious melted, shredded cheese and queso cheese, jalapenos, tomatoes, green onions, and sour cream.

In addition to that feast of flavor and color, though, is what sets their hot, pile of chips apart: their house-made beef chili.

Taco ‘N’ Tequila

Taco ‘N’ Tequila’s main claim to fame is their 45-ounce margarita, and while that’s certainly something to write home about, drinking one of those margaritas with their nachos ups the excitement ante considerable. There are two types of nachos available at this restaurant.

The first, their Nachos Gachos, are the simple ones: hot tortilla chips are topped with pico de gallo, melted cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. These nachos also include a side of salsa, and for an additional charge you can add taco beef or chicken.

Their Mucho Nachos go a step further: hot tortilla chips are covered in cheese, seasoned ground beef, pico de gallo, sour cream, fresh, sliced jalapenos, lettuce, guacamole, and black beans.

Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville

It’s fitting that Jimmy Buffett’s theme restaurant would also serve up some of the best nachos in the city, and while you can get them at any one of his restaurants, they’re so good they still deserve to make the list. Called Volcano Nachos, they’re big enough to share between two people as an entire meal thanks to the veritable mountain of chips covered in ground beef, salsa, two types of melted and shredded cheese, queso cheese, tomatoes, green onions, guacamole, sour cream, and jalapenos.

When it comes to delicious nachos, no one needs to reinvent the wheel. At these three Niagara spots, you can always count on the nachos. The chips will be many. The cheese will be hot, and the extra fixings delicious.
